Emilio Portes
As a Mexico City ́s survivor PORTES has developed an unique style with a dark sense of humor, with unforgettable characters who live on the edge of horror and comedy films. In 2025 his 6th film DON’T LEAVE THE KIDS ALONE premiered at the 54th Rotterdam Film Festival and awarded at Film Festivals as Macabro, Fertaum, Fantasmagoria, Grimmfest, Brooklyn Horror, ScreamFest L.A. ScreamFest New Orleans, Sitges 2025. And in Gerardmer and Fantsporto 2026 too. In 2019 his disturbing tale about possessed religious icons BELZEBUTH won 2 ARIEL AWARDS from the Mexican Film Academy and was the 5th most watched premier at SHUDDER horror streaming. In AMAZON PRIME MX the film remained for 5 years until 2023, when it moved on to NETFLIX LATAM, to continue haunting subscribers. In 2015 his oddball and homage to Mexican movies, THE POPCORN CHRONICLES (Ana de la Reguera adn Andres Bustamante) was the 8th most watched Mexican film of the year. In 2019, his Christmas Carol about Cops vs. Exorcists titled PASTORELA won 7 Ariel Awards and soon became a mexican winter classic. In 2009, his circus extravaganza MEET THE HEAD OF JUAN PÉREZ won 4 Ariel Awards and Best First Picture at Guadalajara ́s Film Festival. Currently he directs and writes for hire, while looking for the financing for his next film adventure.
