Jordan Joshua Smith

Jordan Joshua Smith began photographing people at 16, shooting portraits before moving into equine sports and private events. Years of covering fast-moving horse trials taught him to anticipate a moment rather than chase it, an instinct he now brings to film and television sets as a unit stills and behind-the-scenes photographer. On set, Jordan works to stay unobtrusive, capturing performances as they happen and finding the human moments between takes: the crew resetting a scene, an actor gathering themselves before a shot. His credits include Knightfall, Red Riding and The Force: The Michael Watson Story, and his images have appeared internationally in publications such as: Variety, Fox News, Esquire, Fangoria, British Cinematographer and Hello Magazine, and Deadline. Jordan’s stills are dark, cinematic and bold. He favours deep shadows and moody, low-key light, often with red as a recurring accent, so his frames read like moments lifted straight from the film rather than records of a set. His approach is summed up in his own tagline, “Stills that sell films”: his unit stills are composed with the poster and press campaign in mind, built to carry a film to market. His behind-the-scenes work is quieter and more candid, catching the unguarded moments between takes. In 2025 Jordan won Best Film Picture (Stills) at the International World Cinematography & Photography Awards, and in 2026 his work earned Expert Choice Award at the TPA International Photo Contest.
